Just A Spectator

We met during a futsal game.

I was at this futsal place in Summit with a bunch of my friends and Raja was there. I wasn’t playing though, just a spectator. I had not noticed him but little did I know he was secretly glancing at my direction. Not in a perverted kind of way but more like an i’m-interested-in-you kinda look (according to him). But nothing happened.

Three months passed by and we finally met again during a futsal game. Yup again. Like before, I wasn’t playing, just a spectator. Only this time I HAD noticed him and this time I WAS interested. He had this coy way of running and I absolutely loved it. It was so cute. This time, he finally made his move. The first move. We were all going for drinks and he walked up to me and asked whether I was coming along. My heart was running a mile at this point but I stood calmly and gave a gentle nod as I said Yes. Well, technically that’s a start.

At some point, we exchanged phone numbers. Our first phone conversation was when I had a serious case of sore throat. I sounded like a guy the whole time. OMG! So so embarrasing. But he was still on the other line. Still chatting. Still interested. And so was I.

As time passed by, he finally asked me out on the 1st of October 2003. This time, he invited me to a gig he was performing. It was my first time attending a gig and I’m glad that I went. I discovered that he was a REALLY great singer. Either that or love was making me deaf. Tone deaf. Anyway, little did I know in another 5 years 10 months and 6 days, he was going to be my future husband.

He still goes for futsal and I’m still a spectator in all those games. And yes, I still love the way he runs.
